1. Setting the Media Before any changes are made it is best to make a note of the original settings in case you need to go back to them. Changes are automatically saved! In Terminal use the following commands and type them exactly as shown: prm hazardous media enable (this command lets you change the following values) media (shows list of media currently set up and any available media numbers) set media n name "NewPlate" (Name of ‘media’ and hdm must match exactly) set media n (shows current media settings) set media n type 9 (9 = aluminium plate ) set media n extrascanlines 1 set media n invert 0 or 1 (0 for negative, 1 for positive) set media n debrisoptions x (sets the debris removal options, 1 = air jet only, 3 = air jet + debris cabinet vacuum on, 3 is standard with ETAG) 2. Setting the hdm set hdm n (shows the current hdm settings) set hdm n name "NewPlate" (Name of hdm must match exactly the ‘media’ name) (copy the fheadcal value from previously set up media into this new hdm) (example: type set hdm 1 and note the fheadcal value and set the same value into hdm n) set hdm n fheadcal x.xxx set hdm n fmode 4 (this sets the correct mode for focus) set hdm n soffset 8 (this chops the laser swath from 240 to 224 channels) The same syntax can be used for adjusting all other hdm values. The main hdm parameters that need testing are: sd (surface depth, sometimes referred to as hdm focus setting) ds (drum speed in rpm) wpower (laser intensity for exposure in W) bmslope (beam slope profile for beam balancing) bmcurve (beam curve value for beam balancing) Before typing in these values the media usually needs exposure tests performing to determine what these values are. First the surface reflectivity of the media needs to be determined before any test plots can be performed (See Section 3 Surface Reflectivity (sr) and edge detection) media n (tells the platesetter to work with the media n you just created) scorr init (initialises the SCORR table, default is all zero’s) 3. Surface reflectivity (sr) and edge detection How to position the head to check sr media n (sets the head to work with the required media number) load 800 1030 300 (manually loads a plate 800 mm around the drum, 1030 mm along the drum by 300 m thick) carriage moveto x (x in mm, 600 mm is near the centre of the drum in a TS800) drum move x (x in degrees, 0–360o. 80 is usually a good value to use) focus cal reflect (Cycles the read ahead focus laser to determine surface reflectivity of media n) set hdm n sr x (x is the value produced by the above command i.e. 0.200) head install on (verify a good sum [s value] signal is achieved, 1000 +/- 100 for TH1, 1200 +/- 100 for TH2) head install off unload (unloads the plate, needs to be done to activate edge detection) load 800 1030 t 300 (manually loads a plate 800 mm around the drum, 1030 mm along the drum by 300 m thick) edge test (will attempt to find edge of plate) unload Exposure tests can be performed using TEST PLOT. You are now ready to plot. 4. Other Useful Commands and information door unlock (unlocks the doors enabling access to the drum) set head (shows exposure head settings) \ (+cursor) (allows you to move through recent commands) |
